16bit delta sigma ADCs integrate high accuracy reference
Linear Technology has introduced the LTC2470 and LTC2472, a pair of
16bit delta sigma ADCs that integrate a high accuracy reference in 3x3mm
DFN and 12-lead MSOP packages. The device's integrated 1.25V reference
offers 2ppm/ºC drift performance and 0.1% initial accuracy for precise
measurements in space-constrained applications.

Stereo headphone amplifier eliminates clicks and pops
Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX9820, a stereo headphone
amplifier designed for portable multimedia devices. This IC employs the
company’s DirectDrive architecture to eliminate clicks and pops and the
large output-coupling capacitors required by single-supply headphone
amplifiers.

Two-stage CMOS low noise amplifier
The new XC2404 two-stage LNA (low noise amplifier) from Torex has been
developed using a 0.13m CMOS process, which results in a low power
consumption figure of 12mW (Fixed Bias mode). The device’s noise figure
is a 0.94dB at 1.6GHz making it suitable for use with noise sensitive
GPS applications.

High-gain GPS LNA with variable current and shutdown functions
Avago Technologies has announced the new addition to its family of LNAs
(low noise amplifiers) with a new high-gain LNA with variable current
and shutdown functions for use in GPS, unlicensed ISM (Industrial,
Scientific and Medical) bands and WiMax applications.

Use simultaneous-sampling ADCs to monitor three phase ac-line power
Advanced power-line-monitoring systems combine power-supply monitoring,
load-balancing, protection, and metering functions. This allows power
utilities to efficiently deliver grid power while helping consumers
control costs. An advanced power-line-monitoring system can perform
predictive maintenance while detecting and responding to fault
conditions.
Class B amplifier has automatic bias
Class B amplifiers are prone to crossover distortion, which occurs in
the output stage in which conduction transfers from one transistor to
the other. To prevent crossover distortion, a bias current must flow in
both transistors simultaneously. The bias current prevents both
transistors from turning off in the transition region.

Create a DAC from a microcontroller’s ADC
Few microcontrollers include a DAC. Although you can easily find an
inexpensive DAC to control from your microcontroller, you can use unused
peripherals instead of adding parts. Fortunately, you can convert a
microcontroller’s ADC channel along with a GPIO (general-purpose input/
output) pin into a DAC.
ADC for programmable logic uses one capacitor
Many electronic devices require user input for setting the application
properties. Typical input devices include pushbuttons, potentiometers,
and touchscreens. To minimize overall project cost, you may have to
select lowrange microcontrollers, FPGAs (fieldprogrammable gate arrays),
or PLDs (programmable-logic devices).

ISCAS 2010, 30
May to 2 June 2010 at Paris, France
The IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS),
sponsored by the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and supported by the
Institut Supérieur d’Electronique de Paris, will focus on circuits and
systems employing nanodevices (both extremely scaled CMOS and non-CMOS
devices) and circuit fabrics (mixture of standard CMOS and evolving
nano-structure elements) and their implementation cost, switching speed,
energy efficiency, and reliability.
DATE 2010, 8-12 March 2010 at Dresden, Germany
The 13th DATE conference and exhibition is the main European event
bringing together designers and design automation users, researchers and
vendors, as well as specialists in the hardware and software design,
test and manufacturing of electronic circuits and systems. It puts
strong emphasis on ICs/SoCs, reconfigurable hardware and embedded
systems, including embedded software.

Fiber Optic Analog IC Market Forecast 2008-2013
Consumer demand for high bandwidth applications like VOD, HDTV, high
speed internet access and social networking, coupled with traffic
demands from emerging 3G and 4G networks has created a re-birth of the
fiber optic market. To satisfy these needs, 10Gbps networks will become
the de facto standard network and 40Gbps networks will also see dramatic
growth in the latter part of the forecast period.
