FPGA-based development board
Altium has appointed Premier Farnell as the web distributor for its new
NanoBoard 3000 FPGA-based development board. The agreement extends to
Premier Farnell’s family of global marketing and distribution services.
The NanoBoard 3000 can help to make FPGA design easy.
Altium
ZigBee development kits
Ember has announced the availability of its new EM35x InSight
development kits through its worldwide distribution channels. The kits
enable development and debugging of ZigBee products on the ARM Cortex-M3
based EM351 and EM357 SoCs (system-on-chips) in the EM300 series
semiconductor platform. The low-power SoCs feature high wireless
networking performance and application code space.
Ember
Hybrid signal processing VPX board
BittWare has released the GT-3U-VPX (GT3X) board, which features a large
Altera Stratix II GX FPGA and one cluster of four ADSP-TS201S TigerSHARC
processors from Analog Devices. The front panel provides high-speed
SerDes, 10/100 Ethernet, and RS-232; and the back panel interface
supports PCI Express, Serial RapidIO, GigE, and 10 GigE.
BittWare
Atom based embedded computers
Amplicon has launched the Impact-E 30 series of Atom based embedded
computers adding to its existing Industrial PC range. The Impact-E 30
series are next generation embedded computer systems that utilise the
Atom N270 processor to achieve high performance at low power consumption
– typically around 11W with Windows XP Professional installed.

Speaking Of Porting Software
This software-porting hands-on experiment uncovers a potential audio
decoder for embedded system applications, adding audio or speech to the
applications’ user interfaces. The goal of this hands-on project was to
port a common set of software across a variety of processor
architectures: two ARM Cortex-M3 ports using Atmel and TexasInstruments
processors, a port to a Microchip PIC32device, and a port to an Atmel
AVR32 processor.
Xilinx rationalises and advances development-board support
Earlier in 2009, Xilinx announced its intention to support its Virtex
and Spartan FPGA product lines with design-tool suites tailored to
particular application domains. Since then, the company says, it has
been introducing some individual elements of its new approach; now, it
has added the Base Targeted Design Platform, blending the version 11.2
release of its ISE design tool suite.

High-Level Software For Embedded-System Design
Domain experts are gaining more control of embedded-system design, but
electronic and code-design skills remain key to successful projects.
Powerful high-level software tools give domain experts in such diverse
fields as aerospace engineering, medical electronics, mechatronics, and
even graphics design increasing control over the implementation of
embedded systems.
Cypress extends PSoC with ARM and 8051 cores
Cypress Semiconductor designed its PSoC (programmable System-on- Chip)
devices to contain all of the functional blocks of a small embedded
system : a microcontroller core, programmable logic, and configurable
analogue functions.

HiPEAC 2010,
25-27 January 2010, at Pisa, Italy
The HiPEAC conference provides a forum for computer and compiler
architects in the field of high performance architecture and compilation
for embedded and general-purpose systems, with a special emphasis on
cross-cutting research that can be applied to both. The conference aims
at the dissemination of advanced scientific knowledge and the promotion
of international contacts among scientists from academia and industry.
MUM 2009, 22-29
November 2009, at Cambridge, United Kingdom
The 8th International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia (MUM
2009) is organized by Microsoft Research, Nokia Research, and University
of Cambridge, in cooperation with ACM Sigmobile. MUM is a forum for
advances in research and technologies that drive innovation in mobile
and multimedia systems, applications, and services.
