| Dear Sir/Madam
Due
to the extensive networking of embedded systems there is an
increasing need for security in the embedded market. Suppliers
of embedded systems recognised this problem and offer solutions.
This newsletter features some of them. Enjoy!

3G
LTE Development Platform (Freescale)
Freescale
Semiconductor unveiled a development platform designed to speed
and simplify the creation of networking equipment for 3G LTE
(Long Term Evolution) and other emerging broadband wireless
technologies. The platform is engineered to provide the multi-gigahertz
performance, low-power operation, and interconnect technologies
crucial to support the high-data-rate air interface and IP-packet-handling
requirements of LTE base stations.

DSP/FPGA
AdvancedMC Module (CommAgility)
Designed
around four TMS320C6455 DSPs from TI running at 1GHz and a Virtex-4
FX100 series FPGA from Xilinx, the AMC-D4F1 module addresses
developers' needs in many aspects of high-end signal processing,
from wireless baseband through to image processing and aerospace
applications. Since it is based on the AdvancedMC embedded standard,
it is particularly appropriate for MicroTCA but also usable
in AdvancedTCA systems.

LVDS-Based
SerDes for Video Interconnects
As
a direct result of falling prices for CMOS image sensors and
flash memory, consumer interest in imaging and video technologies
has blossomed over the last few years, and video will drive
new safety applications within the automotive environment. This
article by Naresh B. Shetty from Intersil gives detailed information.

Overcoming
the Challenges of Complex Video SoC Design
The
efficient design of complex, multimedia-intensive, heterogeneous
multi-processing (HMP) SoCs for the inclusion in HDTVs presents
a daunting array of challenges. This article by Tom de Schutter,
CoWare, and Jeff Haight, Sonics, describes a collaborative effort
among product planners, IC designers, and system architects
using Sonics’ SMX smart interconnects and CoWare’s ESL tools
to enable the rapid optimisation and verification of the design
aspects necessary to meet the critical architectural challenges
involved.

CPLD
connects two instruments with half-duty-cycle generator
When
synchronizing the signals of two instruments, one must make
sure that the receiver can latch the sender’s synchronous signal.
For example, a pulse generator generates synchronizing pulses
while generating the main pulse signal. The goal of this Design
Idea by Yu-Chieh Chen and Tai-Shan Liao, National Applied Research
Laboratories, Hsinchu, Taiwan, is to increase the pulse generator’s
high-level width to meet the triggering spec of a lockin amplifier.

Stepper-motor
motion controller and driver fit into a CPLD/FPGA
This
Design Idea by Stephan Roche, Santa Rosa, California, further
develops a previous one integrating a stepper-motor driver in
a CPLD. However, this idea integrates not only the driver, but
also a simple one-axis stepper-motor motion controller.

More
than Just Laptops—Worldwide Hotspot are Impacted by Other Mobile
Devices
Using
a hotspot to access the Internet wirelessly has become very
common. Hotspots are no longer the realm of the corporate traveller,
but are becoming common for personal use as well. This report
provides In-Stat's in-depth worldwide review of the market for
2007.
