1600x1200 Pixel Image Sensor (AvagoTechnologies)
The 2-megapixel CMOS image sensor ADCC-4050 fits in low-profile camera modules to record high-definition videos (800x600 pixels) at 30 frames per second. The sensor's 3D pixel e-field shaping makes each pixel ultra light sensitive. The image sensor automatically adapts to a wide range of lighting conditions down to 5 lux - from incandescent to fluorescent to sunlight - and corrects overexposed or underexposed images.

3.3V HD/SD Reclocker (National Semiconductor)
The LMH0046 is an SMPTE 292M/259M-compliant reclocker that automatically detects and re-times the incoming data stream to suppress accumulated jitter. Features include 0.6-unit-interval minimum jitter tolerance, lock detect, manual rate select, LVPECL serial inputs and outputs, auto/manual bypass, and an output mute function for data and clock.

Trends in oscillator design
If the brain of an electronic system is the processor, then its heartbeat is the frequency-control device that provides the system clock. Both are vital components of the functional whole. It should come as little surprise then that the market forces at work upon the frequency-control sector are basically the same as those that are shaping the electronics industry as a whole: constant pressure to deliver higher performance, higher functionality, smaller package size, lower power consumption, lower pricing and faster turnaround of new designs. You can read more about the Trends in oscillator design in the article by Peter Sinclair from C-MAC in EPN.

Viewpoint on the Analogue Market
There's a common misconception that all analogue companies make high margins. This perception has primarily been driven by a few firms that undeniably do make good gross margins - with Intersil, Linear Technology and Maxim among this group. But there are also lots of companies involved in the analogue space who generate lower margins - examples being Sipex, On Semiconductor and Fairchild Semiconductor. Additionally, there are companies that make good margins through generating primarily digital products - such as Microchip and Intel. Simon Prutton from Intersil explains in his article in EPN what makes some companies «high margin" and others «lower margin".

Hartley oscillator requires no coupled inductors
Examine a traditional Hartley-oscillator circuit, and you'll note its trademark: a tapped inductor that determines the frequency of oscillation and provides oscillation-sustaining feedback. Although you can easily calculate the total inductance for a given frequency, finding the coupling coefficient, k, may require experimental, or "cut-and-try," optimization. This EDN Design Idea by presents an alternative equivalent circuit that allows you to model the circuit before building the prototype.

Line-powered driver lights up high-power LEDs
Using LEDs has gained popularity as a method of saving power for general-purpose lighting, but an efficient method for driving them has also become a necessity. Providing power to a few LEDs may require only a current-limiting resistor, but illumination applications need a string of 20 or more LEDs to provide light over an area. Based on On Semiconductor´s NCP1200A, a 100-kHz PWM current-mode controller for universal offline power supplies, the circuit in this EDN Design Idea by provides a low-cost, offline constant-current source for powering multiple LEDs.

Business PC Users Admit to Storing Multimedia for Personal Use
Personal multimedia content holds a place within the US business user’s work computer, even among senior-level staff, according to In-Stat’s Business User Computing Survey. The survey was aimed at determining what computer form factors and configurations businesspeople are using, in order to draw conclusions about how computers are being employed in relation to media content.
