Low-Cost RF Signal Generator (Agilent)
The N9310A RF signal generator covers frequencies from 9kHz to 3GHz and a full range of modulation types, including AM, FM, pulse modulations and an optional IQ-modulaton capacity. With an external IQ source, it can easily generate various types of modulation - even I/Q-modulated signals such as GSM, CDMA and OFDM signals as seen in modern digital communications systems.

Exploring LXI's Advanced Capabilities
The new LXI (LAN Extensions for Instrumentation) specification helps engineers overcome the limitations of common test-system architectures in several ways. LXI systems employ Ethernet LAN for device interconnection so they don't limit the number of interconnected devices, allowing easier, less expensive connections. Ethernet networks easily support physically distributed systems, large data sets, and high data rates. Paul Franklin and Andrew Creque from Keithley Instruments describe the LXI capabilities in detail in their article in EPN.

Controlling and Analyzing BGA Pins in Software
It is a difficult situation in the engineering process when a design that has tested out correct in the lab fails when it is actually built to specification. For example, you can design a processor in a BGA package into a circuit, send it off to fab, and on return the actual board does not work. Craig Haller from Macraigor Systems shows his article in EPN a solution to avoid this situation.

Active-filter circuit and oscilloscope inspect a Class D amplifier’s output
Testing a Class D amplifier poses some difficulties. The amplifier’s output comprises a PWM (pulse-width-modulated) signal that swings between ground and the supply voltage at a frequency that’s usually 200 kHz to 2 MHz. However, when you view this PWM output on an oscilloscope, you’ll see no resemblance to the sine-wave input. You can observe a Class D audio amplifier’s output if you introduce the filter circuit based on the MAX-9727 quad-audio-line driver in the Design Idea by John Guy from Maxim.

IC and DMM form direct-read-out temperature probe
The simple temperature-measurement probe in the Design Idea by can serve as an indispensable tool for troubleshooting and debugging electronic circuits. To measure temperature at several points, you can equip MAX6610 with a probe, or you can permanently integrate one or more devices into a pc board or attach them to components.
